  • Lowland forests
  • Up to 600 metres
Description:
  • Canopy tree with a straight trunk
  • Smooth leathery leaves are glossy on the upper surface and have smooth margins (5-12cm x 1-3.5cm); midrib level with surface, underside has only a midrib visible (see Black maire)
  • Flowerheads are 1-2cm long , containing about 5-10 tiny (2mm) greenish flowers
  • Fruit is a drupe about 10-12mm long which tapers at the end, green turning red when ripe
  • Rough, furrowed bark, branchlets with pale bark
