Where found:

  • Forest, rare.
  • Several sites in Egmont National Park.
Description:
  • A root parasite on a wide range of forest trees.
  • The main part of the plant is a warty ball like structure (up to the size of a baseball) on a root of the host tree.
  • Small flowering shoots break through the surface of the ground. Flowers are pinkish brown and quite fragrant.
  • Male and female flowers are borne on separate plants.
  • Preferred food of possums, especially flowers and buds
