Where found:

  • Only known from the Ahukawakawa Swamp margins and Pouakai Range, Egmont National Park.
  • Unique, rare and threatened.

Description:
  • Divaricating (much branched) shrub which forms a compact crown of rigid stems with spiny tips.
  • Very small leaves have different juvenile and adult forms. Adult leaves 7-12 x 2mm dark green above, paler beneath.
  • Small cream - yellow flowers in October - December.
  • Fruit a small (4-5mm) round berry, white with scattered purple to black spots (March - May).
  • Very palatable to hares, goats, possums
