Where found:

  • Lowland shrubland and boggy ground
  • The most common woody plant at Denbeigh Road Bog (570 metres above sea level), Mt Taranaki/Egmont
  • Up to 1050 metres
Description:
  • Twiggy shrub or small tree with a wide angled, spreading, intertangled branches (divaricating), the branches are grooved and hairy when young
  • Small (5-20 mm x 3-8 mm), leathery leaves with smooth margins and a soft white/cream dense mat of hairs underneath (tomentum)
  • Small flowerheads consisting of 6-8 flowers (individual flowers 9mm across), sweetly scented, flowering October to January
