Common name: Alpine kiokio Botanical name: Blechnum montanum
Family: Blechnaceae Size: Fronds 14-45 x 6-25cm

 

Where found:

  • Mt Taranaki/Egmont subalpine scrub, tussockland, wet or damp conditions
Description:
  • Smaller harsher fronds than common kiokio which it replaces at higher altitudes
  • Frond segments more deeply toothed and wavy-edged and only slightly reduced in length towards the base
  • Upright fronds on stipes (stalks) 80-450 mm long
  • Young growth pink
