| Where found: |
- Lowland and mountain forests.
- Tolerates poor soils but prefers moist soil and will tolerate
wet soil.
- Mature forest/regenerating forest/forest margins. It is often
predominant on partially cleared land.

| Description: |
- Small branching tree.
- Serrated leaves. Young leaves are bright yellow-green 5-15 cm
long and 3-5 cm wide.
- Violet berries 4-5 mm long form clusters along the branches
of female trees from November to March.
- Bark is whiteish and generally covered with fine white lichens.
- Small purple berries eaten by birds.
- Tolerant of frost/wind/salt. Hardy and can withstand wind but
will often become misshapen and gnarled in windy places. Environmental
