| Description: |
- As a juvenile, lancewood looks like a partially opened umbrella
with long leaves pointing downwards, becoming a round headed tree
with spreading branches, a tall straight trunk up to 50cm diameter
and upright leaves
- The juvenile leaves are rigid, long and narrow (18-100cm x 1-1.25cm)
dark green with brownish patches and a distinct broad yellowish
midvein, they have sharp tips and teeth on the margins
- The adult leaves are a brighter green, smaller and broader (10-20cm
x 2-3cm), very thick and ribbed, lance like with serrations
- Small greenish flowers form large clusters, flowering after
the tree starts changing to become the adult form
- Reddish-brown fruits 8-9mm across
- Bark brown to grey, often covered with lichens
