Family: Myrtaceae (Myrtle family) Maximum height: 15 metres

 

Where found:

  • Lowland to montane shrubland and forest, especially margins
  • Up to 900 metres
Description:
  • Tall shrub or small spreading tree with a trunk up to 60cm diameter
  • Linear, narrow, thick leaves (4-12mm x 1-2mm) are aromatic and occur singly or in groups of 3-5
  • During flowering, the tree is smothered with small white flowers about 3-7mm across
  • Dark brown, thin stringy bark which peels in long flakes
  • Many fine seeds in small dry papery capsules that usually fall within a year of the flowers
