Common name: Kanono Botanical name: Coprosma grandifolia
Family: Rubiaceae (Madder family) Maximum height: 6 metres

 

Where found:

  • Forest and scrubland
  • Common on alluvial soils and in moist sheltered places
  • Often abundant in bush remnant regrowth after fencing
Description:
  • Shrub or small tree with stout, hairless branches or branchlets. As a tree is has a slender trunk
  • Large membranous leaves (15-20cm x 7-10cm) are often mottled and dull. Oval with a pointy end and distinct vein pattern
  • Flattened, oblong fruit, orangy-red drupes
  • The inner bark is vivid yellow or orange
