Where found:

  • Coastal forest in North Taranaki, south to about Kawau Pa
Description:
  • Round headed small tree or shrub with many spreading branches, branchlets have dense matted covering of hairs (tomentose)
  • Dull green, leathery leaves with smooth wavy margins, tomentose on the underside (70-100 mm x 25-35 mm)
  • Flowerheads of 3-10 small white/yellow flowers growing on long tomentose stalks, flowering from January to May
  • Rough, furrowed, paper like pale brown bark peels in long narrow strips
