Where found:

  • A few coastal locations near Mokau
Description:
  • Upright, much branching shrub with ascending branches
  • Upper surface of the leaf is dark green and quite wrinkled, the lower surface is covered by thick dense matted hairs, very distinctive raised veins (leaf size 50-70 mm x 20-30 mm)
  • Pale green, small (6mm) pyramid like flowers without petals in clusters on the branches, flowering from November to January
  • The seeds are dark and not shiny (1.5 mm x 1 mm)
  • Distinguished form the commonly grown P.aspera from Australia by dense white hairs on the undersurface of the leaf. P.aspera has sparse green hairs on the undersurface of the leaves
