| Description: |
- An important indigenous sand binding grass
- A stem which runs along the ground with shoots along it (stoloniferous),
often forms colonies 80-160 metres long
- Much branched, knotted, rope-like, hard, creeping flower stalks
- Silky-hairy leaves 300 mm x 1.5 mm, silvery green in colour
- Tiny white flowers - male and female plants separate (dioecious)
- On female plants, the seed heads are spiky balls often seen
blowing along the beach in February/March
- Preferred plant for foredune restoration in New Plymouth
