- Coastal to lowland forest, southern limit in Taranaki about
Okato
|
| Description: |
- Tree with a broad dome shape, stout spreading branches with
four-angled branchlets, trunk up to 1.5m diameter
- Opposite leaves on stalks up to 10cm long, each leaf has 3-5
leaflets (3 main leaflets 5-12.5cm x 3-5cm), the leaves are shiny,
leathery and undulate (wavy) with smooth margins
- Pink bell shaped flowers (2.5-3.5cm) in groups of 4-15, produced
almost all year round
- Bright red drupe (2cm)
- Peeling bark
- The fruit is a sought after food for many native birds
- Preferred food of possums
