- A scrambling climber which grows as a dense, tangled mass
- Small, round, dark green shining leaves (5-20 x 2-15 mm)
- Small white flowers; dioecious
- Black glossy seeds sitting in succulent white 'cups' formed
from swollen petals
- Dark to light reddish brown bark
