Family: Polygonaceae (Dock family) Maximum height: 6 metres

 

Where found:

  • Coastal sand dunes, forest margins, open and rocky places
Description:
  • A scrambling climber which grows as a dense, tangled mass
  • Small, round, dark green shining leaves (5-20 x 2-15 mm)
  • Small white flowers; dioecious
  • Black glossy seeds sitting in succulent white 'cups' formed from swollen petals
  • Dark to light reddish brown bark
