Where found:

- Coastal to lowland forest, shady gullies, shady rocky outcrops,
commonly grows under pines and shelterbelts
|
| Description: |
- Small densely-branched tree or shrub, aromatic with zigzag jointed
branches with swollen nodes
- Dark to yellow green large heart shaped leaves (50-100 mm x
60-120 mm), fleshy, slightly leathery with shiny upper surface,
the leaves are alternate on stalks up to 40 mm long
- Minute flowers occur on male and female flower spikes up to
80 mm long occur on separate trees
- Orange drupes 2-3 mm in diameter are closely packed on the female
spike
- Fruit, bark and leaves all have medicinal properties
